SAFETY WARNINGS Failure to observe these warnings may result in equipment damage, serious injury or even death. WARNING - General Maintenance Like most other dive reels on the open market, Practical Diving Products reels are a simple, generic design where the body, moving parts and line can be inspected for proper condition with a minimum of technical expertise. Whilst each reel was designed, constructed and assembled with attention to detail, it is imperative that prior to each dive, the user is personally satisfied that the reel is in good repair and fit for the purpose for which it will be used. WARNING - Line care Even under normal conditions, guidelines are usually subjected to abrasion and wear, such that the line may break, become separated or cut unexpectedly. A guideline thick enough withstand prolonged wear and tear would make a general purpose reel impractical to use. Therefore, it is vitally important to check the condition of the line before each dive and not to rely on a single reel or guideline, particularly in closed or overhead environments that prevent unaided escape to open water or the surface above (such as wrecks, caves or caverns). Although each line is visually inspected during manufacture, it is recommended that the user personally inspects the entire line before each use, in order to be satisfied that the line has not been damaged or deteriorated and is fit for the purpose for which it will be used. When lubricating specific PDP80, 80s, 150 and 150s reels against corrosion (as per the care instructions), make sure the guide line is protected from oil over-spray, which may otherwise or prematurely deteriorate the guideline and perhaps lead to its unexpected failure during use. WARNING - General Use Practical Diving Products reels are designed for general navigation purposes and depth indication when using a solo marker buoy (SMB). As such, the reels are not designed to bear loads and must not be used as a substitute for a life-line, or for any form of weight lifting, towing or hauling under any circumstances, including strong currents. Care should also be taken not to position the guideline such that it may be abraded, worn, cut or broken under tension. Divers should not conduct safety-stops 'hanging' from the reel. WARNING - Training Diving in overhead, confined or other dangerous situations exposes divers to potentially serious risks such as total darkness or loss of visibility, disorientation, entanglement or entrapment, unintended separation from the dive vessel or shore base and potential depletion of air or breathing gas supply. Most reputable dive training agencies offer affordable training in the proper use of diving reels, usually as part of an advanced, wreck, cavern, sinkhole or cave training program. Such training should prepare the user for most emergency situations specifically pertaining to operation of a dive reel, including broken, separated or cut lines and entanglement. Under no circumstances will Practical Diving Products be held accountable for the user's failure to undertake the appropriate training necessary to ensure the reel is maintained and used in a safe manner at all times.
