REEL CARE - PDP 80s, 80, 150s and 150 REELS LUBRICATING AGAINST CORROSION In order to keep electrolytic corrosion to an absolute minimum, occasionally use a penetrating oil such as WD40 or CRC 5.56 to lubricate the areas where stainless steel and aluminium adjoin (such as where the main axle penetrates the frame, and the front and rear screws). However, make sure the guideline is protected from oil over-spray, which may otherwise or prematurely deteriorate the guideline and perhaps lead to its unexpected failure during use. The main axle, spindle and plastic winding knob should never be lubricated, as this will cause a build up of sand and other contaminants that will damage the main components and make the reel difficult or impossible to use. FREE-PLAY ADJUSTMENT Note: thread-locking solution (such as Loctiteä 243) is required for this operation. Don’t be tempted to disassemble the reel unless you have the means to re-secure the dome nut with an appropriate thread-locking solution. Adjusting the free-play of these reels is accomplished by removing the larger dome-nut (i.e. the dome-nut on the side of the winding knob), scraping or away the old and re-applying new thread-locking solution before replacing the nut until it is positioned with the desired amount of free-play. If the smaller nut (on the other end of the axle) is dislodged during the process, it too should be fully removed, scraped clean and firmly thread-locked back into place. PDP 80s, 80, 150s and 150 LINE REPLACEMENT The line on each reel is passed through the spindle itself and then knotted inside the spindle to allow for even laying of the line when retrieving. Should the line require replacement, partial disassembly of the reel will be necessary and line replacement performed as follows: Disassembly. First remove the dome nut and washer from the frame side of the reel. Then withdraw the main bolt from the frame, being careful not to lose the nylon spacer and washers between the spool and the frame. Remove the spool from the frame and cut the line off just above where it enters the spindle. Push the off-cut and knot out through the hole at the side of the spool with a narrow screwdriver or similar instrument. Reassembly. The new line should first be passed through the slot in the front of the main reel frame from outside to inside leaving enough length to manipulate. Feed the end of the line through the small hole in the spindle and push it out through the near side-hole. Then tie a secure knot at the end of the line and re-seat it into position inside the hole by pulling on the main line. Replace the spool in the main frame from underneath (it's not necessary to remove the plastic guides at the front and back). Replace the main bolt (replacing the spacer before the washer). Care should be taken to ensure the more closely fitting washer (which meets the shoulder on the main bolt to ensure proper alignment) is placed on the inner side of the frame.
